MASTER PLAN AND ARCHITECTURAL DESIGN FOR AN ECOTOURISM CENTER AND A BIOMUSEUM IN THE EL TORMENTO ECOLOGICAL RESERVE IN ESCARCEGA, CAMPECHE, MEXICO, FOR THE SECRETARIAT OF TOURISM OF CAMPECHE

This project is located in an ecological reserve with an area of 1,400 hectares. The Ecotourism Center includes an ecolodge (with lobby, front desk, offices, restaurant for 112 persons, kitchen, 40 ecological cabins , parking area for 60 vehicles, souvenir and handcrafts shop, cafeteria), a network of interpretative nature trails (total development of 3.5 km), botanical garden, native plant nursery, organic farm, aquaculture ponds, 2 observation towers, 2 entrance/control points. The Biomuseum (which functions also as an interpretative/visitor center) includes the following areas: Maya Cosmovision (Natural Environment and Cultural Heritage), Flora of the Maya Rainforest, Fauna of the Maya rainforest, Heritage Conservation, Utilization of the Natural and Cultural Heritage through Sustainable Development Practices, audiovisual room, handcrafts shop, access/lobby, open central patio, access plaza and fountain, sanitary services, cafeteria, offices. Total built area of the Ecotourism Center and Biomuseum: 3,900 square meters.

Phases I and II of the project were completed in 2012.
